Who are we?

PharGS is an organization formally established with the ratification of its Constitution on May 5, 2006. PharGS has three main goals:

  1. Represent the needs of the graduate students within the Faculty

  2. Liaise between the Faculty, University, and the graduate student body

  3. Cultivate a supportive graduate student community through organized social and professional development events that promote academic and social success and wellbeing

PharGS ensures graduate student representation on a wide range of committees and organizations, including hiring committees, safety councils, infrastructure committees, the UBC Graduate Student Society (GSS), the Teaching Assistant’s Union (CUPE), and other student committees across campus. It is through these representatives that graduate students in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences have advocates and are informed of occurrences, decisions, policies, and issues that will impact the development of their careers.

To encourage the interaction of graduate students with Faculty members as well as the University and Pharmaceutical Sciences communities, PharGS works to organize several events throughout the year that promote professional networking opportunities. Visitors to the Faculty are invited by PharGS to provide insight from their experiences in industry, government, or academia. A series of professional development workshops are held throughout the school year to develop skills essential for future career paths.

PharGS hosts regular social and recreational events throughout the year to promote a sense of community within the graduate student population and within the Faculty. Members of the PharGS Executive believe that the physical and mental wellbeing of graduate students is of paramount importance for student success. All graduate students are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the many activities hosted throughout the year and the friendships that inevitably develop along the way.
