PharGS Holiday Party
To top off the special year that 2020 was, PharGS came together one last time in celebration of the festive season with an ultimate Zoom BONANZA !! Facilitated through post, our White Elephant tradition was kept alive and many laughs were had with the funky gift selection and last minute plot twists. Door prizes, drinking games and an intense Scavenger hunt made the occasion that much more memorable 😊 Thank you everyone for making this event so fun and congratulations to the teams “Leaf”, “Gold” and “Street” for showing quick wit and being the winners of our Scavenger hunt !! We hope you stay well and healthy during the new year, and 2021 brings a new face to us all :)

PharGS Community Celebration
" After a very unique year PharGS gathered online to celebrate all of the incredible accomplishments enjoyed by our community, since March! Despite all of the challenges, countless publications, awards, conferences, comprehensive exams and degree completions prevailed! Spending the better part of 2020 apart has been difficult but on Friday we came together to celebrate one another and spent a fantastic evening hanging out virtually. Congratulations to our lucky prize winners, and to everybody for not only enduring our new normal, but prospering and achieving new heights of success even in the face of adversity."

PharGS Virtual Paint Night 2020
Social distancing and mask wearing could not hold down the creative spirits of our fellow PharGS members during this year's paint night! This year we moistened our paint brushes and decorated our canvases virtually with the help of Artemis Saatchi. PharGS members could chose between painting a "Hot Air Balloon Sunset" and a "Tranquil Dreamy Landscape" and had access to paint packs provided by PharGS. Many laughs were had and master pieces were created during this event. Thank you to all who joined and we look forward to seeing you at our next event!

PharGS Halloween Extravaganza
We went big for Halloween which may have been the best attended PharGS event of the spooky 2020! Thank you to everyone that got dressed up and joined us on Zoom to celebrate Halloween and have fun with escape rooms 😊
Congratulations to Danielle, Sneha and Lukas for winning the costume, Fall photo and pumpkin carving contest, respectively! You were all great and we hope you enjoyed our festive celebrations, looking forward to seeing you all on our next event.

Cambie Night 2020
"They say it is not the destination that counts, but the journey – and a journey to Cambie it has been (2 years and counting XD)! While we didn’t quite make it to Cambie again this year, we kept the party vibes alive online :D PharGS came together to honour this golden event with a session of drinking games and tunes on Zoom. It was a great time and many laughs were had. Thanks to everyone who made this evening so fun, and a special shout out to our Mix-off winners Jen and Tessa for showing us how to fix yourself a drink in style!!

Online Trivia 2.0
Going into the autumn weeks, PharGS went on to host another Online Trivia competition, this time using Zoom breakout rooms. Many PharGS members joined the occasion and battled off in 4 rounds of questions, with Team B emerging victorious ! It was a fun time and great to catch up with everyone, we want to thank all the teams who joined us to make this event possible! PharGS Orientation
This year PharGS adapted our New Student Orientation to a virtual party! Graduate students new and old came together to play a wicked game of BINGO Speed Dating as we shuffled through some intimate breakout rooms. We spent the evening learning new facts and getting to know each other as we connected safely, online. The party continued into the evening as we kicked off the new academic year together! Cheers to the incoming Graduate students; welcome to PharmSci!!

PharGS Beach Bubbles 2.0
With the autumn approaching PharGS around the corner, we seized to get the most out of the summer sun left in 2020. PharGS bubbles came to the beach for another round of fun in our physically distanced outdoor social at the beach 😊 Hanging out on Spanish banks and playing Volleyball during golden hour was great, and the teams really got into it at the end ! Most importantly seeing each other in person again was sweet and we are excited to welcome new graduate students to PharGS. We would like to thank everyone that came along and soaked the last bits of the summer sun with us and we hope you look forward to the beautiful colours of the Fall. Stay safe and well !

PharGS Beach Bubbles
With everyone staying at home for a few months and acting responsibly, the first wave of COVID-19 in BC was maintained well. And so everyone could feel a little more safe during the summer when the Phase 3 Health guidelines were announced permitting group gatherings of up to 5 people. It was a long time and after seeing each other only through the computer screen, the time was right for our first physically distanced outdoor social at the beach 😊 Keeping it safe and simple PharGS Bubbles was a groups social where each bubble of 5 people enjoyed an activity that could be organised while maintaining a physical distance. Playing Volleyball and Frisbee was super fun, but most importantly seeing each other in person was great ! It was truly a while since we have seen each other in person, and it was awesome to see PharGS community at our considerate meetup. We would like to thank everyone that came along and enjoyed the beautiful sunset on the beach despite the 6 feet distance! Stay safe and well everyone!

PharGS Sun Month
Summer is here and while we still cannot gather in groups, we can now get outside and enjoy the warm summer weather 😊 While many people are bogged at home working on research meetings and manuscripts, the sun was out and beautiful BC is around the doorstep. ‘PharGS Sun Month’ was a 4-week team competition where people exercised individually, while working together to achieve the most activity time for their team. It was intense ! Who would have known everyone keeps so active outside the lab lol. It was great to come together in our Zoom Grand Ceremony at the end of the month, we want to thank to all the participants of this unique summer event and we hope you've enjoyed this competition as much as we have 😊 Keep up your fitness ventures as the new semester begins!"

Express yourself “COVID-19 edition”
"Let’s be honest, spending so much time at home, working remotely got us all going crazy at some point :D Hobbies and art, have always been one of the most valuable companions during the grad experience, and unpredictable moments such as these. PharGS is talented in and outside the lab 😉 and to celebrate this, we came together for a fun exchange of home projects during the COVID home-office times. The “Express yourself” galleries showcased how creative and cool grad students are outside the faculty realm, and it was a nice way to refresh in the brink of the summer. A big thank you for all your submissions and congratulations to the artists, who were voted as PharGS’ official favourites ! We are very lucky to have you and appreciate your effort in keeping up the positive vibes ! Stay awesome peeps and don’t forget to express yourself ;]

ZOOM Trivia Night
When faced with the challenge of physical distancing, PharGS was still able to keep up community spirit by taking part in an Online Trivia competition. Many PharGS members rose to the occasion to duke it out over several rounds of challenging trivia questions. The competition was stiff but even through the contest, many laughs were had. It was great to see PharGS come together to compete in spite of the unusual times. We would like to sincerely thank everyone who joined us to make this event possible! The winning team "COVID 20 - Down with the Sickness" comprised of Karan, Tessa and Lisa, will remain in PharGS history as the team with the most creative and fitting name to win during this unprecedented situation. SOHO Night
Another successful PharGS outing making the most of the long February in 2020 ! Our group hit Soho billiards downtown, for a night of pool and merry Friday night vibes. Well-matched teams and a PharmSci spirit allowed for last-minute comebacks and some dramatic trick shots. Who would have known that PharGS has a strong presence on the billiards scene?? Overall a great time, thank you to everyone that came along and made the night so much fun!

Valentine’s Day Social
Love was in the air this Valentine’s Day and that meant it was time to get together and celebrate! Everyone came together to indulge their sweet tooth and participate in some fun/challenging activities. Cookie decorating was one of the main highlights where PharGS members got to show off their creative talents through decorating heart shaped cookies (Thanks Ariana for organizing/baking!). Many people had fun trying to guess how many candies were stuffed into our mason jars for some fun prizes. When we weren’t decorating cookies or counting candies, we took part in some intense games of Jenga and Yahtzee. Thank you to all those who came by to celebrate with us, we sure had a great time!

PharGS ICE SKATING
Kicking off with our first event of the new decade, PharGS was reunited once again for an evening of fun and ice-skating at Robson square. Overall, we had a great time where we slided away the winter blues on classics, such as ABBA and Bon Jovi while enjoying some hot chocolate and donuts during the half-time. Thanks to everyone who joined us and made this event so much fun, with a special shout to the brave ones who went on skates for the first time ;))
